After 3 connected flights, dozens of countless cat naps, and over 12 bags of pretzels, the first thing that came to mind was FOOD. Prior to my arrival in Montreal, I’ve done some research in hopes of finding some great Vegan restaurants, bistros, and cafes in which I am excited to try, review and pig out! After getting some sleep, then knocking down a few family visits, my cousin took me to the nearest mall; Carrefour Laval, and I remembered it being small when I left 9 years ago. Boy has it changed!  I walked in one or two stores, but of course I wasn’t paying much mind to what I was looking at, because of the hunger I was battling inside of me.

My stomach took me to straight to the Food Court. I was amazed of how “Healthy” the Food Court became, because of so many selections and cultural food choices ; such as Shrimp On The Go , On-Site Asian Stir-Fry to Sushi, Fresh to Order Burritos and Earthy burgers. After walking around and smelling all kinds of cuisine, my stomach built up an appetite. There was this one place named “Le Smart Burger” that caught my attention, and noted to be Vegan-Friendly [YES]. It was a while since I’ve cooked and enjoyed a good burger so I decided to give it a try and my taste-buds gave me the “GO” signal to order.

As I finished reading the menu, I decided to go with ” Le Teriyaki Vege”. It was made of 100% burger Vege Organic House-made, Caramelized Onions, Sauteed Mushroom, Teriyaki Sauce, Lettuce and Tomato, with a side of fries and Coca-Cola. Sounds awesome for a hungry stomach eh?

Everything looked and smelled good as it was brought to the table. One bite in, and my taste-buds started to analyze it’s given taste… I got nothing, so I gulp the first bite with a slight grin, washed off the taste with some soda and tried again…I kid you not, it tasted like “DIRT”… There were oats hanging out, and the inside was yellow. What was that?

The Organic Veggie patties I purchase at the grocery store in the frozen section has a better taste than this. It was a real disappointment I must say. The name was nothing but a “Hype”. Still famished and tired, I decided to pull the so called “Vege patty” out and was left with nothing but the condiments between the bun and gulped down the disappointment.

The place was nothing but a “Earthy” decor filled with VEGAN-FAILURE, plus , the girl behind the counter gave me an attitude while ordering. I should have taken my $14.59 somewhere if I’d known!

A few stores down, I spotted a Starbucks, and decided to cheer up myself after the so called “Adventure” I’ve just experienced, and went with my Fall favourite pick; Grande Cinnamon Dolce Latte with Soy Whip on top. Surprisingly, my cousin was the one who really wanted the whip! aha

So Ladies & Gents, this was my Day 1 of “Vegan-Hunt Eats” in Montreal…Many more to go and hopefully less failure …
