My ChuChai’s Fairytale Story…

What had started off as a rough morning managed to end itself as a beautiful story…and it goes as follows

Today i had the chance to try a new Vegan restaurant in town, ChuChai. A Vegetarian & Vegan Asian Bistro and Fine Cuisine. It is located on St-Denis down on Mont-Royal. The weather today was windy and a little chilly, but didn’t stop my cousin and I from venturing our way out. Isn’t she the best? She’s so open minded into try new places with me.  Maybe one day she’ll switch over to my side of the plate (insertwinkhere).

St-Denis Street.

So after taking a stroll downtown, we decided it was time to E A T. When i first arrived in Montreal, i made a list of many Vegan places on my “To Try” list, and ChuChai was one of them. My cousin called me last week and told me about a place a friend recommended us to try and surprisingly, ChuChai was on my list!

Window seat.

As soon i walked in i knew this place was bound to be good.  We started off with 2 appetizers for Entrée, Fried Dumplings x Spring Rolls then ordered our main course, I had the Vegan Pad Thai with Fried Tofu and she had the Vegetarian Chicken [Soy] over Green Beans with a side of Brown Rice

Deep Fried Dumplings.

The Deep Fried Dumplings were delicious. They had a nice crunchy shell and tasty filling. I honestly can’t say what was in it, i was too busy savouring it’s beauty. Perhaps next time? Next we had the Spring Rolls. Now next to my french fries addiction, it is safe to say that spring rolls comes in next!

Spring Rolls.

Crispy outside and well seasoned juicy filling. I believe it was Shredded Carrots, Shredded Green Cabbage and Vermicelli. Yums!

So after a few laughter and conversations our main plate arrived, boy was i excited. Oh and just to add, her plate was amazing, but gave me a mild allergic reaction, yes it’s true. I had a bite and knew somehow felt  Ginger was involved. After a few bites in, my throat started to close up, and made it hard to swallow. Bummer isn’t it?  Luckily i had my fancy dandy boyfriend with me [inhaler] 2 puffs in and a tall glass of water, i was back to normal, Yippie !!

Vegetarian Chicken & Brown Rice.

They called it the “GAI PLIK KHING” on their menu, fancy eh?

Pad Thai.

Now this was best Pad Thai I’ve ever had. I am not exaggerating. The noodles were cooked to perfection, the sauce was perfect, now the Tofu was amazing [Certified Organic]. It had the right amount of flavour in, and fried to perfection, crispy outside and moist inside. The Ground Peanuts and Bean Sprouts complimented the dish perfectly! Overall i was pleased, and i am definitely going back for M O A R !

The atmosphere there is really cozy and welcoming. The staff was really friendly. Oh, did i mention it is a “Bring Your Own Wine” establishment? Sadly i didn’t know this, but if I’d known you know, my bottle would have been in my purse ready to be poured. I most certainly bringing a nice red wine on my next visit. Before i forget dessert was served, but i was already full from the appetizer and plate, that i myself decided to skip that part of the menu, but my cousin definitely had her share ! She went with the Tapioca over Coconut Milk, if i remember well. I do have a picture of it, but it’s doesn’t give it any justice. I can guarantee you it was good, all i heard was ” Omg, Humm, this is so good” until the last spoon !

So my dear readers, ChuChai was a success! I heard the the Vegetarian Duck is a killer there, now i’ve never had duck before, so i wouldn’t know what it tastes like anyways, but i think i’m going to skip on that one hehe. I will go for a beef  & chicks’ next !

If you are on St-Denis and haven’t made a stop at ChuChai yet, don’t hesitate. You will be pleased!

And she walked out happily after ….

Welcome Back?

W E L L  !

As some of you may know, i have been M-I-A for the past …. 2 months (insertsadface) !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reasons? Good question, I’ve been too busy & selfish living and eating oh and vacationing ! I do apologize for it all, I’ve been getting views off the roof and i feel so bad because there’s nothing to view but old post, BAH ! Enough with the crying eh? I was back home in Atlanta for a month and I took so many pictures and all, maybe one day i’ll organize a slide show eh?

The plan was to make a post everyday or so, about my outings and all, but the fact that i left my laptop back in canada, because i didn’t feel like carrying my laptop case ( lazy much?) around is basically the reason why i have been slacking… I told myself, well there’s 5 computers back home i don’t need to bring my lappy..but ya, that was a total fail (anothersadface)

Well, it is now 8:38pm Minus The Bear are singing in my ear & I am FULL!

Here comes the GOODIES !!

After a long day at work, my friend and I decided to grab dinner #teeheeee

Of course being  a #Vegan in a Carnivore’s world is a total adventure to me, so i picked out the place “Commensal” and she was really open minded about trying out some vegetarian food for the night :) Isn’t she awesome?!?!

Yes, ladies &  Gents! This was my plate !! Why so much.. Well to start off, all i had in my stomach was some chips x orange juice x coffee since 10am .. Can you taste the stress off my mouth?? So of course i went I-N on this Vegan Buffet !! The way Commensal works is by the pound, meaning you fill your plate with whatever you want, it is then weighted and by then you are told how much you owe! Luckily for me, it was a whopping $18.80 ! and truthfully that is nothing for everything i had ! Hey, it pays to eat organic- healthy and finger lickin’ good !

Moving on, if i remember what my plate consisted of, it was as followed..

Garlic seared noddles x Zucchini, Baby Button Mushroom and Peppers x Beets Salad, Red Beans, Corn, Scallions, Green Cut Pepper x Spring Rolls [ Rice Vermicelli, Shredded Carrots & Veggies] x Chinese Seitan Stir Fry x Baby Sprouts x Avocado x Lac St-Jean Pate [Veganize Canadian Dish] … NOW of course, everything had it’s own sauce, spices and blahblah, but i honestly can’t remember what everything was. I do know that everything was well seasoned and freaking AMAZING !!

Of course it’s not a M E A L without a legit dessert eh?  I am not big on sweets, but when i like something, i DO !

What we have there are Fresh Cut Pineapples x Strawberries & AN AMAZING SLICE OF #VEGAN CARROT CAKE ! Yes i know it’s all in CAPS, i am not illiterate. I just want you guys to understand how amazingly heaven this piece of carrot cake was in my mouth <3

Moist x Silky x Flavourful & Refreshing. All for a bagnin’ $5.83

So overall, The Commensal is def one of my favourites! Hence it is my second time going thus far, and i am proudly the Mayor of the location on Foursquare ^^

For a grand total of $24.67 … i am proud to say it was all worth it !! I can be a cheap date, but there is nothing like treating yourself after a long day of work eh, plus i wasn’t the one cooking this time #win

You can find a Commensal easy ! Luckily for me there is one right behind my grand mother’s house, aren’t i lucky?

The Commensal is a Vegan & Vegetarian establishment, everything is noted by legends and provides an ingredients list.

Oh and you can bring your own wine ! How awesome eh?

I hope you guys enjoyed my mouth watering “Welcome Back” post. I promise to get back on track !! [Pinky Promise]

Ps. Happy Earth Day <3
