Wanna Scramble?

Late for breakfast? That’s okay, Highland Bakery has got you covered for brunch! I like to start my day off strong, from flax seed millet oatmeal to a good tofu scramble, I make sure to fill my stomach with a perfect morning kick ^^

Tofu Scramble & SOYsage.

Seasoned tofu with a mix of veggies [ zucchinis, squash, tomatoes, mushrooms] potatoes and a side of SOYsage. YUM! Since I usually scramble my tofu all the way, it was nice to have it a different way, cubed.

The tofu was seasoned to perfection. The SOYsage were good. I usually don’t go with “fake meats” but I thought i’d try it, after seeing it on the menu. While Highland Bakery is not a Vegan establishment, it does offer some options for us! Talk about a win, eh? The potatoes were awesome and I fell in love with spinach all over again. How can one say no to a mouth full of greens? The service was great. I gladly enjoyed my first visit. Highland Bakery offers 3 different locations, Old Fourth Ward, Midtown and Buckhead. I  myself went to the one in Old Fourth Ward. Inman Park area is one of my favourite neighbourhood in Atlanta. You will find me there a quite much.

Inman Park, Atlanta.

In town and looking for a strong scramble? Highland Bakery is the move! I highly recommend it to you.

Let’s Have A Bun!

Greetings Earthlings!

I know we all at some point want to enjoy Oriental food, from ramen noodles to authentic Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese food. Somedays we just want to try something different than what our taste buds is familiar to! I personally enjoy Asian food a lot. I can’t eat Asian food without Sriracha sauce, Sriracha has become a permanent item in my pantry! I used to not be able to withstand spicy meals, now I haunt for a bottle everywhere I go.

Once you go Sriracha, there’s no turning back!

While in Buckhead a few weeks ago, my twin sister took me to a Vietnamese place called Pho Dai Loi, located on Buford Hwy. The only Vegetarian option it offered was the Vegetarian Bun, simple and flavourful.

Vegetarian Bun- Rice Vermicelli, Shredded Carrots, Fried Onions, Chives,Cucumbers and Crushed Peanuts.

I will say this, the more Sriracha sauce the better. I enjoyed it, minus the mint bed sitting at the bottom of the bowl. I am not crazy of mint. It was a light lunch and filling dish. You want to know the best part about it? It was just about 5 bucks! Now, whoever said eating Vegan was expensive lied to you! I mean come on, it’s just a bunch of vegetables! *winks* If you’re ever in town and feeling for a bun, look no more. Pho Dai Loi has got you covered!

Messy bun. The bottom of the bowl was filled with shredded mint. I wasn’t too crazy about it. I adjusted the taste by pouring on more Sriracha.

A Slice Of Southern Sweets!

Now here’s the deal, I can cook but I can’t bake! It’s a fact. I can make pancakes though, I’m sure this counts for something, eh?

Some of us are more on the ” Salty” side and others ” Sweets” side. I am with the SALT! Pass me the chips, salsa, more chips and pretzels. There are times when I crave sweets, t0 later direct myself towards the pantry to find nothing in sight I can snack on, major bummer. But I will have 3 different types of chips and crackers to choose from.

I love exploring different restaurants when I am in the city. I like to taste new meals, finding new places to eat and excite my taste buds. I can’t speak for everyone on this, but for me it’s a pleasure. I love being able to create new dishes, mix flavours, and take a leap of faith with the herbs and spices rack. Have you ever tried mixing Sriracha sauce and Agave nectar before? I have, and it’s amazing! Try it! It turns into this sweet and tangy glaze, perfect for an oven roasted potato dish.

While downtown, of course randomly out of nowhere a sudden urge for sucrerie – sugar in French, tingled me. After leaving Dekalb’s Farmer’s Market, my friend suggested we stop by Southern Sweets Bakery, located right across the market. They  are a bakery and cafe who serve vegan cakes and as well as regular cakes. They offer 11 different flavours of vegan cakes. Now that’s luxury.

A Slice Of Strawberry Layer Cake.

After playing tag you’re it over the counter selection, I decided to go with a slice of the Strawberry Layer Cake. 100% Vegan. 100% Pureness. The first bite was glorious; the fresh strawberry glaze, moist layer, and whipped cream all in one it almost made me cry. I couldn’t contain myself of excitement, because it was one of the best things i’ve ever tasted.

In my next visit I will definitely have to try the Rustic Apple Pie and Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse cake.

I would hope for the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse to be a mixture of a Reesee’s Peanut Butter Cup!

I like the idea of it, don’t you?

If you’re in the area and are craving a little sweetness to your day, stop by.

I suggest the Strawberry Layer Cake as your first try.

There’s nothing like a classic!

A Soul Fix, The Kale Bone Way.

Soul food. Soulful. Soul fool. Soul rich. Soul Vegetarian.

The minute I stepped in the restaurant it felt like home. The warmth and aroma of the restaurant was very welcoming. From baked goods, collard greens, mashed potatoes to massive kale bone steak, soul food is not what’s missing in this menu!

Bring on the mac and cheese, steamed broccoli, and a country fried steak smothered with gravy!!!

Country Fried Steak, Kale-bone- Mac and Cheese and Steamed Broccoli.

Now, that’s what I call SOUL FOOD. Everything about it was delicious. The Kale bone steak, wow! I need that recipe. I couldn’t put my fork down. I wish I could explain you the taste of this amazing, crunchy, rich in flavour steak, but I can’t. It is something you have to experience yourself. I know, I am sounding a little bit over dramatic here but trust me, I mean it. *Wink, wink! The mac and cheese was very creamy and strong in spices. The gravy was good, but a little too salty for my personal taste. I was really surprised to see how large of a portion they offered. The meal was served with a house salad. Fresh romaine lettuce, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, alfalfa sprouts and house dressing. The salad dressing is light and has a sweet and tangy taste to it, which I thought was different and great.

House salad.

The staff were both attentive and friendly and the food was tasteful.

I will say that I did enjoy my first visit to Soul Vegetarian and I won’t make it my last. I now know where to go for a soul worthy meal. 100% Vegan and Soul rich , I am sold!
